Description

It is one of the many alkaloids present in Catharanthus roseus. Can be used as a starting material for the synthesis of the anti-tumor drugs, vinblastine and vincristine. It is less active as an inhibitor of tubulin self-assembly into microtubules than the latter two compounds.
